Parties and decorating and lounging about the tree. Twinkling lights everywhere, unseasonably warm weather, shows here and there, presents to buy. We can fill up our Christmas season with good things and wind up empty having missed the point and purpose of these moments in time.

The point is at the fullness of time God sent forth His Son. We need not look any further than Genesis before we see the divine plan unfolding, before we witness the finger of God pointing, through His chosen instruments, toward the coming birth of this Son, this Savior, this coming King.

Gabriel speaks into the world the name above all names and Mary brings into the world the One God Man. Not robbed of one ounce of divinity while taking on flesh in utter humility. We skirt right past this King who was born that we might be born again. We mustn’t fail to slow our days with the intention of seeking Him. We are in a hurry for a great many things, but are we eager for Him, anxious for the fullness of His presence, the revelation of His Kingdom?

Maybe the best gift we can give this Christmas is that of a gentle and quiet spirit. The blessing of one that has been in His presence. The beauty of One hiding in Him, the wisdom of a woman who seeks Him while He may be found.

O, Come let us adore Him, Christ, our Lord.
