I looked at the title of this post. Sounds lovely, but my two year is upstairs throwing a tantrum and I am downstairs doing the same thing she is…(smile). How do we find peace in the midst of days that feel too long, too hard, too much… And there’s this cute baby trying to eat my window treatments. And Micah wants to play Caillou. And no, I don’t blog and mommy at the same time I just thought these were memories you’d want me to record so when I talk about a peaceful home you know that I know what it’s like to NOT have one (smile).

Do you remember this verse?

…but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God’s sight is very precious.

1 Peter 3:4 (ESV)

Let’s hear it a less familiar way.

But let it be the inward adorning and beauty of the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible and unfading charm of a gentle and peaceful spirit, which [is not anxious or wrought up, but] is very precious in the sight of God.

1 Peter 3:4 (AMP)

A spirit not wrought up. The secret to a peaceful home resides not with perfected schedules or pretty rooms, with not a single thing external. The secret to a peaceful home resides in our hearts. How is the hidden person of your heart? What are we really like on the inside, in the unseen place of our hearts? When our hearts are wrought up, torn up, messed up…our homes reflect. Our hearts tell the truer story not our instagram or pinterest boards.

What if we took our wrought up hearts before the Holy Father…before the One who is near to us, not at all far off, and asked Him to give us the sweet fruit of peace? What if that gift spilled over into our homes….the kind of heart that is very precious in the sight of God?

There really is a secret to a peaceful home and His name is Jesus! The deep abiding that eradicates the frenzied discontented cries of our soul. I hear Him whispering to me in Scripture, pressing into my heart that repeated truth, to live is Christ, and He alone brings peace.

That Luke Scripture, unaged by time, sung so often and so gloriously loud this time of year is miraculously true in Jesus…

PEACE ON EARTH.

Then, the miracle enters our hearts. God with us…IN us…the hope of the glory… Perhaps more wondrous than anything is His PEACE in us… in flawed, frayed, frazzled, frightened, forgetful human hearts. Jesus IN us.

PEACE IN ME?!

Are you willing to believe that’s even possible? Let’s believe Him together this week. It’s so much easier than doing so alone.
