Here’s a bit of my memory work. Prepositional phrases are killer, but oh, how the Lord reveals layer by layer that they are key. Part of the key to understanding the sparkling jewel of this Word.

His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness through the knowledge of Him who calls us to His own glory and excellence *by which He has granted to us His precious and very great promises* so that through them you may become partakers in the divine nature.

The diamonds of Scripture abound. The book, a gold mine. When he exclaims, I rejoice at your Word as one who finds great spoil. Friend, it is because the reward is great! The promise is rich for those who go to Scripture to seek after Jesus. He will raise up their heads radiant, for Jesus is the treasure.

Jesus is Scriptures highest, most precious, very great promise.

He is it!  His divine power to live sinless and perfect…His divine power to die righteously in our place…His divine power to slay death…becomes our means by which to live...His divine power gives way to our receiving His divine nature. And this is glorious…thrilling…deep treasure.

When you come into His Word to memorize you have entered into the treasure house. Piled high is treasure deep enough to reach into the depths of your soul. He is it!

As you read you come by way of His divine nature…you pass through knowledge to come to His glory and excellence…It is that divine nature, that glory and excellence that gives the gem of the promise…

And it is through the promise that you eat of a nature so other than your own that His angels never cease to say Holy Holy Holy is the Lord God the Almighty who was and is and is to come.

When you memorize remember you’re coming by way of Jesus through the promises of God. The persistent promises of Holy Writ hold us steady…keep us safe…draw us near…into the depths of our God. So, keep walking…

The Promise pursues you, and hasn’t He always? Taking up skin, succumbing to death, shaking off grave clothes… to save us? Smile. Salvation cleansing like a flood,  living water rushing down into our depths.
