So there’s this magazine cover making the rounds, and articles about it are splashing up everywhere, articles from both secular and God honoring perspectives, some ridiculous and others helpful. Here’s what I keep thinking….

Kim Kardashian is a beautiful woman made in Gods image, and she doesn’t seem to know Him. Among the Jesus seekers, there should be no real need for online pep talks about how we don’t need to compare our bodies to all of that because y’all… shouldn’t most of us know that truth by now (sweet smile)?  I know some of us are walking around with deep wounds that need divine healing. I understand that there is a deeper transformation needed than to “just get over it.” I am not suggesting we gloss over our deep hurts and fears, I am simply reminding us that Truth Himself, Jesus Himself is our answer. My heart just breaks at the thought of God-fearing women falling to the ways of this world in same old way again and again. We must win this battle. Even if the magazine cover isn’t full of immodesty, should someone else’s beauty blind us to our own? Doesn’t Jesus secure us? Doesn’t He make our flesh dwell secure in every way? Let’s believe Him for that.

Jesus is the only One with a right to tell us who we are.

If we want to raise secure daughters, there’s no way around it,  we are going need to become some secure mommas. Believe me, I get it, insecurity is a real thing. Every last one of us have wrestled it in one way or more… But we have got to repent of all that and get on with everything else in life (encouraging smile). All this life-stealing comparing and self-obsessed introspection is killing us. And if we teach it to our children, it will break our daughters and teach our sons that a woman’s beauty really can be measured by the size of her jeans. But all of that is a lie.

The way Kim is acting serves as a wake up call to every single one of us putting our worth in what we see in a piece of glass, that reflects back to us only the part of ourselves which will one day perish.

When we let any magazine cover shake us, we are participating in the same sin being propagated by the media in the first place… that is seeing beauty as nothing more than a matter of curves and sultry looks. But we are much more than that.

And so is Kim. She just doesn’t know it yet… but the redeemed ought to know that we are God’s treasured possession, and there is nothing more beautiful than that. We are not competing with magazines, and while I am not exactly sure why we are even looking at most of them, the truth is this lady only broke the internet because she is broken. In fact we are all broken, but if we will take our brokenness to Christ, He will heal us in every way. Then, our faces will radiate the Lord, who is Himself the very perfection of beauty shining forth from Zion.

Jesus is the breathtaking beauty that breaks our sin and humbles our heart to the dust.

Eternal beauty rising in the face of His saints who are going on with Him from one degree of glory to another… now that is worth blogging about. As for Kim?  Let’s pray for her sincerely that she might come to know, in all truth, the Glorious One who loves each one of us in all our crazy mess.
