What I want my kids to know about love….

Because one day perhaps my children will read this. I want them to know that their parents witnessed the shocking unraveling of culture as the devil’s  perpetuated lies sank into the fabric of a nation. And on a day when so many celebrate, giving hearty approval to lives lived out in sin, I want my children and the world to know, our hearts broke. There is no love without truth, and there’s nothing noble about pretending the love of God is about accepting the sins of others. I want them to know that love did not win this day, but it will. God’s love will win and a Kingdom will emerge that will uphold every Word He speaks.

To the Gibson Crew:

By the time you read this the world will be in over their heads reaping all the ramifications of denying the truth about marriage. I am sorry you have to see immorality on display in such a fashion, so I want you to know this… I want you to understand that we do not create truth. We submit to God’s truth as revealed in Scripture.

When a justice system and a portion of the nation rejects God’s irrevocable truth, the hearts of the saints rightly break. It isn’t hatred or bitterness or lack of love for one’s neighbor that inspires the sadness we ought to feel. It’s a deep understanding that where people so brazenly rebel against God’s Word, there is lostness. There will be pain and without repentance generations will suffer brokenness because some denied the truth. May the saints love the way the Lord commands. It is the truth that sets free and where we are afraid to speak it with gentleness and respect there will be casualties in this cosmic battle over each and every human soul. Where truth is feared and left unspoken, the lost will remain in their sin. We are a not a perfect people and we are not the Righteous Judge of all human flesh, but we are the light bearers, the Gospel proclaiming people of God and I pray we will not shrink back. One day the court of human opinion will close. Your mommy and daddy look forward to that day. We pray you would as well.

In the meantime, proclaim the truth of the Bible boldly, and if someone calls you a bigot turn the other cheek, pray for them anyway. If someone denies you friendship, be kind to them anyway. If someone tells you the Bible is an antiquated book of rules, share the timeless truths within it anyway. Remember it is the revelation of Biblical truth, the rebuking of own your sin, and the unfolding of the Gospel that saved you, and it will some you share it with as well. Never fall prey to the lie that truth is relative, because that will slide you and those you influence straight into gross immorality and sin.

We are the created and since that is true, we must conform to our Creator. If we live contrary to His design, we will harm ourselves. Steep your heart in Scripture and give yourself to prayer, then you will keep your soul and perhaps the souls you love from grave error.

God’s love wins. All the counterfeits lie.
