At an inquisitive two I find her asking me all sorts of things that honestly I can’t even believe she’s thinking about. There’s just something in those huge gorgeous brown eyes that captivates me and when she lets the tune of a hymn leave her lips or quotes some Scripture I didn’t even intentionally help her memorize, my heart squeezes with joy. I’m telling the truth y’all she’s just learning along with us because memorizing is our lifestyle.

Even ourĀ precious youngest wild boy whom I thought could not possibly sit still long enough to hear what we were doing had more Scripture memorized than I can quite wrap my mind around. The very kid you’re thinking cannot do this probably CAN. You can too. I thought my younger boy, my wild, outside love, dirt eating, race car playing, sing his heart out handsome couldn’t slow down enough to process all of this quite yet, and I was, well, completely WRONG. Never been so happy to be wrong in my life, you know? I love that God makes His Word so accessible, so available to us, and I love that is the very thing we need to live excellent fruit bearing lives. It’s kind of amazing how able these children are to practice the disciplines God is giving us even as they are yet unbelievers. The thing isĀ faith comes from HEARING. Hearing what? The Word of Christ, so why not give it to them, both the ones who talk and get all the things early and to the ones who do not. Do not miss this journey because you’re afraid you can’t or they can’t. It might take you longer to get each verse, but won’t it still be worth it? It might seem childlike to chant Scripture, but aren’t we all children of God anyway, hungry to learn what He exalts above everything else?! What if you gave up your fears about this, all those nagging feelings that say you can’t or don’t have time or… What if you chose faith. As my youngest daughter often asks, “Just two little minutes?” That’s all we are asking here.

Just give a few little minutes in the grand scheme of your day, and let’s tuck this Word away. It is worth every single second, because all those songs you know every word to, all those books you’ve ever read, every single one of those words will meet their end. This Word, the one I am commending to you with greatest joy, not one letter of it will fade.
